WhirlWind Dance was founded in 2021 by Joshua Manculich, a Princess Grace Award Winner and former dancer with Thodos Dance Chicago. In order to build an artistic base for movement during the height of the pandemic, WhirlWind produced an event entitled “Let Us Move and Be Moved,” a series of dance performances presented at a socially-distanced outdoor venue in Houston, TX. Quickly, the WhirlWind gained momentum and filled bi-annual workshops.
In 2022, the WhirlWind moved to Columbus, Ohio and became a non-profit organization in May. Most recently, the company has expanded beyond the national summer residency geared toward the celebration of dedicated talent and drive, and has also established an annual performance fundraiser event for other non-profits organization, an annual curated event showcasing the creativity of local dance makers, and recognizes the importance of a pre-professional youth company experience. The WyND Program, the official youth company of WhirlWind Dance will hold its first season in 2023-2024, and the company is in residence at The Well Center for Movement and Dance.
